Show Recreation leaders list activities to Genterville Council By TOM HARALDSEN Editor CENTERVILLE It was a busy summer as usual for the Cen-terville Cen-terville Summer Recreation Program, Prog-ram, as outlined in a report to city council recently. Karen Carmack and Colleen Sessions, chairmen of the committee commit-tee over the program, reported that 658 were enrolled in various aspects of the program this year. Total hours of instruction, not including in-cluding tennis, were 1550. Expenditures for the activities included $5142 in salaries, and $2278 in supplies, equipment and miscellaneous items. Revenues produced totaled $2968. The program prog-ram employed 11 individuals. Summer classes this year were taught for two weeks at Smoot Park, then moved for two-week sessions to Main Street Park and 700 East Park. The ladies reported such a move, different than in the past, produced many positive comments com-ments from mothers who were able to drop off their children at one park for a sustained period of time. New workshops this year in- I eluded a babysitting clinic spon-! spon-! sored by the Centerville Women Jaycees; a bicycle workshop sponsored spon-sored by the Cyclist, and a racquet-ball racquet-ball class taught by city resident and national champ Luzell Wilde. Recreation participants also enjoyed en-joyed two city track meets and a state meet in Provo, three city archery tournaments, drill team participation in the city's Fourth of July parade, and a closing party for about 124 children. Goals set forth by the committee for the coming year include increased in-creased enrollment in programs, continued use of the new schedule that proved successful this summer, sum-mer, reassessment of personnel, completion of storage facilities, including in-cluding racks and shelves at 700 East park and storage at the new Smoot Park pumphouse facility, better dissemination of information informa-tion to the public, an updated inventory in-ventory list and staff meetings at the beginning of each block. In a related matter, parks maintenance supervisor Mike Mills also showed council a slide presentation on reports of his department's de-partment's activities during the 1987 season. |
