Gordon Hinckley has left for Placerville, Calif, where he will arrage an exhibit for the LDS Church to commemorate the discovery of gold in California on Jan. 24 1848. This is the openng of Calfornia's three-year centennial. The exhibit is honoring hon-oring the men of the Mormon Battalion who participated In the gold discovery and then left the gold fields to come to the Salt Lake Valley. Frances Neff and Mary Osguthorpe. It's amazing what a pep song can do to the residents of East Mill Creek. Yes we're speaking speak-ing of the song which was so aptly presented by our M Men on our Mutual program last Monday. An invitation to come and join the basketball team and cheer them on to victory was presented in rhyme and rhythm fashion. After this presentation pres-entation we discovered we not only had a champion basketball team but "had the making of a second Don Cossack Chorus. On behalf of the team may we invite each ward member to participate in three hours of thrill-packed basketball. All games are played in Granite's L Building gym. Let's have a good cheering section from E. M. C. for the remaining two weeks. The annual Rosette Ball of the East Mill Creek Stake M. I. A. is being sponsored by the Junior Girls and Senior Scouts, on Jan. 31 at the Emerald Em-erald Gardens. All of Mutual age are invited to attend this semi-formal dance. Tickets mav be obtained from the M. I. A. presidencies and the Junior Girl and Senior Scout class leaders. Have you heard about the newest new-est addition to East Mill Creek's music faculty? Miss Shirley Parkin is now devoting her time to her piano pupils. Shirley is offering six free lessons to be given over a three-week period so that parents might be able to see just what she can do for their children. She is taking beginning pupils, so mothers and fathers read this over twice it is a chance of a lifetime and one that you can't afford to pass up. Speaking of basketball, you've undoubtedly heard of the Junior Jun-ior and Senior Scouts and the M Men well, now we'd like to present our Junior M Men team. This . team is composed of Freddie Fred-die and Ronnie Beesley, Bobby, Rodney, and Branson Neff, Ste-vie Ste-vie and Bryan Walker. These boys provide the spectators with half-time' activities and it is our opinion that the M Men coach of 1948 hasn't a thing to worry about. The students from the Institute Insti-tute of Religion at the University Univer-sity of Utah will present the sacrament meeting at the East Mill Creek Ward this coming Sundav. Jan. 25. The eroun is under the direction of Lowell Bennion and the program promises prom-ises to be unique and inspiring. |
