BLODGETT FARMINGTON Three infants in-fants and their mothers were probably prob-ably saved from serous injury or death last week when a van smashed into a parked semi-trailer on Interstate Highway 15, south of Kaysville. All five were wearing safety belts the three youngest were strapped into car child seats, according to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Debbie Birch, who investigated inves-tigated the Tuesday morning acci- dent. "The van was ripped from the front bumper to the tail lights, opening the side of the van like you would open a can of sardines," said Trooper Birch. "It's a miracle that no one was seriously injured or killed. "The van spun out of control for quite a distance after clipping the left rear of the truck. If the occupants, occu-pants, especially the children, had not been strapped inside their seats they could possibly have been hurled out of the vehicle onto the highway." The children, aged 1 to 3, the driver and a female occupant ap residents of Hill Air Force BasX Trooper Birch said investigation is continuing as to the cause of the accident. . She said all occupants were treated tre-ated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital. Ironically, the ambulance crew servicing central Davis County had been called to aid a woman having a home delivery at the time of the accident and a second ambulance was dispatched to the scene. |
