Show Vets Eligible For Tax Exempts Are Urged To File Duchesne County veterans who are entitled to property tax exemptions for 1954 are being reminded by county officials of-ficials to file application ' for such exemption now. Those eligible for filing such an exemption are veterans of the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II, who have a 25 per cent or greater disability. These veterans veter-ans are entitled to a $3,000.00 pro rata real and personal property pro-perty tax exemption in Utah. Disability rating's are certified by the Veterans' Administration and mailed to the veteran shortly short-ly after the first of each year. These disability certificates are to be attached to an application applica-tion form and in accordance with Utah law, presented to the Duchesne County Commissioners Commission-ers by May 1 each year, for approval ap-proval of the exemption. The county clerk receives such applications. ap-plications. The exemption is not automatic. auto-matic. It must a properly applied ap-plied for each year. If the disability rating is 25 per cent, then the veteran is allowed a $750.00 real and personal per-sonal property value exemption from taxation; 50 per cent disability dis-ability rating entitles the veteran vet-eran to $1500.00 value exemption, exem-ption, 75 per cent, to $2250.00; and 100 per cent, to $3,000.00. Unmarried widows and dependents de-pendents of deceased veterans also are eligible for these exemptions. ex-emptions. Each unmarried widow wid-ow of a veteran is allowed a $3,000.00 value exemption if proper application is made. |
