Show filontvel Pioneer Dies At 83; Active In Church Funeral services were held yesterday yes-terday in the Roosevelt stake chapel for Robert Angus Alexander, Alexan-der, 83, pioneer of Montwel, who ! Mi. r ! died in a Provo hospital at 11:45 p-m. of causes in-c in-c i d e n t to age. Bishop James E. Larsen of Montwel Mont-wel ward conducted conduct-ed the services. M r. Alexander was born May 17, 1872 in Washington, Washing-ton, Utah, a son of Benjamine La- moni and Katherine Kelly Alexander. Alex-ander. He married Annie Dodson, Oct. 4, 1897 at Circlevill. The marriage mar-riage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Before he was born his parents lived at Kamas for a short time before they were called to go into southern Utah to help colonize Washington County, where he was born. During his younger days he worked his way from Wyoming to Southern California, with his pack horse carrying his banjo and harmonica. When the Reservation was thrown open for colonization, Benjamine Lamoni Alexander and his six sons came here to begin another pioneering experience. (Continued on Page 2) j I MONTWEL PIONEER ... (Continued from Page One) Robert settled on a homestead in Clay Basin, a few miles east of Altonah. He carried mail for the people of that area and his home was always open to ' travelers, white or Indian. Mr. Alexander was a high priest in the Montwel ward and was group secretary at the time of his death. He had served as chairman of the genealogy committee, com-mittee, but his great love in the church was ward teaching, a call he served faithfully in for many years, Mr. Alexander is survived by his widow and the following sons, and daughters: Clarence and Theo, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Minnie Cra-po Cra-po and Parley, Roosevelt; Milton, Shelton, Wash.; Mrs. Wanda Rich, Gypsum; Colo.;-Mrs. Verda Rey- nolds, Craig,, Colo.; Mrs. Maae Nielson, Chandler, Ariz.; 26 grand children; 16 great-grandchildren-one brother.
