Show CLIFF MEMMOTT, Edilor - j i NATION MAKES READY FOR j MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION Democratic America last week concluded the second aior party convention in Chicago when the Democrats 01 1 an(j nominated their standard bearers for the coming residential election that promises to be one of the most interesting and possibly tightest political battles of all ""Chosen by the Democrate to head their ticket was Governor Adlai Stevenson of Illinois, with Senator John Sparkman of Alabama as his running mate. Both men rate high as fine American gentlemen and are considered the best possible material that could be placed before the American people for their consideration come November 4, 1952. Xwo weeks in advance of the Democratic convention, the Republican party left the Windy City with a national ticket that is headed by two men who, through their past experiences and contributions to a nation, are equally cap-ab'e cap-ab'e and deserving of the confidence of the American people peo-ple as they prepare to select an administration to replace the political leaders now reposing in Washington. A couple of months ago I expressed my personal opinion opin-ion in this column that I felt it was time the United States had a change in Washington. . . . I'm still very much of '.rat opinion and since the wind-up of the two major :arty conventions in Chicago, it looks like we will have a change. Although President Harry Truman indicated Stevenson was his man when he had his delegate vote cast in his favor at the convention, it is the opinion of those who know-Governor know-Governor Stevenson that he is not a "rubber stamp" for the Truman forces. General Dwight Eisenhower, although i Truman military appointee, has indicated as Republican presidential nominee that he will clean house in Wash-iigton Wash-iigton if his party is swept into power. It has been my pleasure to meet and talk with Senior Sen-ior Richard Nixon of California, vice-presidential candi-is:e candi-is:e on the GOP ticket. He is young, intelligent and a r;:y impressive leader who made his place on the ticket clause of his activities in the Congress of the United V 'es, especially in the famous Hiss trial. The ..meric.-rj -ople shoi'H ho' if re V?ved people in ' v. taowledge that they have the privilege of choosing .'.-.n two fine Americans in the coming election. It is a;:jent that, regardless of political prejudice, the gov-e:.:-3t of the United States will be in good hands with ei-s: General Eisenhower or Governor Stevenson as its president during the ensuing four years. . . -vEv Drivers are safer when the roads are dry; and the r;ids are safer when the drivers are dry." |
