Show CLIFF MEMMOTT, Editor "Obey Those Traffic Signs - All Of Them," Says Safety Council. . . "Stop on the red, go on the green. Don't sneak through on the in-between!" This bit of rhyming advice was given today to Utah pedestrians pedes-trians by Myron J. Fulrath, president, Utah Safety Council. Mr. Fulrath reminded walkers that the Signs of Life program which the Safety Council is sponsoring this month applies, to pedestrians as well as motorists, "Too many walkers expect drivers to accept all the responsibility respon-sibility for traffic safety," he said. "They ignore the traffic signs and signals provided for their protection, and very often their carelessness costs them their lives." The Safety Council spokesman said that last year alone 7,900 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents. It is his belief be-lief that many of these persons might be alive today if they had heeded the Signs of Life, According to Mr. Fulrath, some of the unsafe practices indulged in-dulged in by these unfortunate walkers were: crossing against the signal at intersections, crossing intersections diagonally, and crossing between intersections. "Such careless actions invite disaster," he said, "and our pedestrian death toll will remain high as Long as walkers have so little regard for their own safety." He urged all Utahns to make it a habit to obey traffic lights at intersections and signals at railroad crossings, to cross only at intersections whenever possible, and to use cross-walks when they are provided. "Traffic signs are the pedestrian's Signs of Life," he said. "Know them and obey them!" Save A Life SHOULD SOLVE OUR LOCAL PROBLEMS BY OBEYING ALL TRAFFIC SIGNS .... KTNDA GLAD TO GET THE ABOVE COMMENTS from the president of the Utah Safety Council. . . He sure sums up most effectively an opinion I have expressed numerous times about our own citizens in our own towns, especially in Roosevelt, ignoring ig-noring traffic signs. . . Have about decided a lot of pedestrians and some drivers of vehicles are color blind, or else they just plain want to sneak a little on the law.. WHILE ON THE SUBJECT of traffic signs, and especially the traffic light on the intersection at Lagoon and Second East ' (Main Street) in Roosevelt, I think a slight finger should be pointed toward our enforcement officers and suggest they be a little more observing of the wilful violation of this traffic sign A few tickets for running a red light and a little closer policing of this corner, would bring about a consciousness of the purpose of this light. . . Now that school is about to begin, we'll have a lot of youngsters using crossings, and if they see intelligent adults ignoring the red and green lights, they have every right to follow the pattern and someday, some kid will get it, then it will be too late. A GREAT IMPROVEMENT COULD BE MADE if the position of the ''Push-Buttons" on the four corners were changed to more convenient places, and proper signs attached explaining what to do when the light is green. . . Our city dads, or the State Highway Department should think about this idea, which would assist in enforcement of this "Sign of Life." Observe The Signs AND I QUOTE .... "The man who says that only time will tell hasn't had much experience with women." Anthony J. Pettito. t "One thing a girdle does is keep an unfortunate situation from spreading." Peter Arnell. t "The husband's the head of the house and the pedestrian has the right-of-way. And everything's fine until either one of them starts to prove it!"
