Show R.E.A. Approves HjSOfiQQ iiiiptwemaiif Loan Fir Moon Luke Electric' Association Funds Will Make Available Added Power Facilities For Basin; Iowa Contractor Awarded Contract A telegram from Senator Wallace F. Bennett last Friday informing this newspaper that REA had approved ap-proved a loan of $1,750,000 to Moon Lake Electric Association, was confirmed Tuesday by Ron E. .Harrison, general, manager of Moon Lake Electric. He has made a rather comprehensive report on where the funds will be used in expanding and improving the rural rur-al electrical system in the Basin. According to Mr. Harrison the officers and directors of the association assoc-iation composed of Ray Brown, Montwell, president; William Field-stead, Field-stead, Boneta, vice-president; Rue Miles, Mtn. Home, secretary-treasurer; Clyde Lambert, Altonahr Claude Wagstaff, Tabiona; Fred Neumeyer, Lapoint;. and I. W. Cramer, Rangely, have approved the expansion program. A new 69,000 voLt transmission line will be built from Lapoint to Ioka and Talmage where step-down step-down substations will be installed to provide an adequate supply of electricity for rural farm, ranch and irrigation expansion. Branch Line Planned Several years ago a line was built from the Rangely generation plant to Lapoint. Included in the new loan will be funds to construct con-struct a branch line that will take off east of Lapoint and extend into the Lecjta area. Here a step-down sub station will also be built to make available three phase power for proposed agricultural expansion for irrigation by pumping water onto the fertile lands. Also contained in the expansion program will be a 69,000 volt line from the Yellowstone hydro plant, located ten miles north of Altonah to tie into the high voltage system. Contracts Awarded According to Mr. Harrison the Hoak Construction Co. of Des Moines, Iowa has been awarded the contract to construct the new high tension lines and build the sub-stations. Officials and key employees of the middle west company com-pany are expected to arrive in Roosevelt prior to Sept. 1st to set up offices and begin operations. Several weeks ago the general manager for Hoak Construction Co. reported to the Standard-Record office that approximately ap-proximately 25 families would move here until the job was finished. fin-ished. With the addition of the new power lines and sub-stations it is anticipated the investment by Moon Lake Electric Association would be increased by approximately approxi-mately $440,000. Their present plans also call for installing two new diesel generating units at Rangely. These increases are expected ex-pected to add an additional 24,000 K. W.s to the present supply. The new investment in generation plants will cost about $500,000. At the time the Rangely diesel plant was erected over a year ago, provisions were made for generators gener-ators now being installed. The generation units will be presumably presumab-ly dual' fuel units, and will use natural gas. However, in case of an emergency diesel fuel could be used. Additional funds are available in the one and three quarter million mil-lion loan to Moon Lake Electric to improve present lines carrying electrical energy to farms and ranches in the Basin. These will be improved so that latest developments develop-ments in irrigation by sprinkling can be introduced into this area. According to Mr. Harrison when the new additions are completed Moon Lake Electric Association will have completed within its .system five and one half million dollars in generation plants and feeder lines. Moon Lake serves rural Uintah Basin from Tabiona and Hanna on the west to Rangely oil fields on the east. The main office is at Altamont, and recently a branch office has been set up at Vernal to handle phases of the system. New Billing System A new system of billing for consumers of REA power has been instituted the past few weeks under the direction of Mr. Harrison. Harri-son. Billing books and rate schedules sched-ules for the three different types of power consumed have been printed print-ed and will be mailed to each consumer. con-sumer. . The new system will' replace re-place the 2f post cards used for meter reading reports and billings. |
