Watkins Asks Return To U.S. Senate Seat In an 11-page (legal-size paper) pa-per) resume of his activities during the past nearly six years in congress, Senator Arthur V. Watkins last week announced his candidacy for re-election to the U. S. Senate on the Republican Repub-lican ticjeet. ' In announcing his candidacy, the senator made the following statement: "I hereby announce my candidacy for re-election to the United States Senate. The necessary papers are being forwarded for-warded :to the Secretary of State, to. be filed next Monday. "My record is an important part of my personal platform. I have confidence that it is a record rec-ord of accomplishment and devotion de-votion ,t6 the interests of my State and, my Country. "The great and paramount issues is-sues of ;Our times are peace and war and our security as a nation. i,have voted for every move which I felt would help establish ..peace in? the world and brinf about our own national nation-al security." Besides,' being a senator, Mr. Watkins has served as an LDS stake president and has also been a ranches! a publisher of newspapers, news-papers, and presently owns two fruit farrrls in Odem, Utah. He married Andrea Rich and they have six children: Mrs. Thomas-W Thomas-W (Nedra) Reese, Orem; Mrs. Carl A. (Venna) Swalberg, Honolulu; Hon-olulu; Miss Jeanene Watkins, Miss Nina 'Watkins, and Dr. Arthur Ar-thur R. Watkins, all of Orem. Dr. Watkins is associate professor profes-sor of"' European Culture and Modern Languages at Brigham Young University and serve'l overseas during World War II. |
