Show CLIFF MEMMOTT, Edilor ' (flAT ABOUT THE BLUE CARDS? t: hE THEY WANTED IN ROOSEVELT? Several months ago considerable talk and publicity C. as in evidence along Roosevelt's Main Street concerning i: a phase of the newly organized Chamber of Commerce. ... I appropriated this column a time or two explain-; explain-; ing how the "Blue Card" would work. Then each business :: man was contacted personally and had the idea explained " rather completely. . The "Blue Card" will really work if members of the t chamber of Commerce will let it work for them. Monday a salesman for the Utah Peace Officers annual an-nual magazine came into my office to sell me an ad in ieir publication. There is no doubt but what I would lave made a contribution to their program if he had had i "Blue Card." .... However, I made a pledge to the , Chamber of Commerce when I paid my dues that I I jould honor only "Blue Card" solicitations. And that's mat I told the salesman. ... I suggested that he contact ;ur president, but he had already, secured several conditions con-ditions and inferred that he couldn't be bothered. The attitude of every merchant and professional man a Roosevelt should be one of supporting each ' other. By , ;onoring only "Blue Card" solicitors you'll be doing ex- ;:tly that and at the same time you'll save yourself if onsiderable money. U Elsewhere in this issue of the Standard will be found facsimile of the "Blue Card," which is the' authorial authori-al jtion any solicitor should carry if he is to make a drive j' iroughout the business section of our city. This does :ot apply to regular salesmen whose business it is to sell ;erchandise to the various enterprises within the city. It is surprising the number of applications for a Blue Card" that have been refused by the unknown com- i'.tee appointed by the president, which in most instances sve saved each Roosevelt merchant from $1 to $10 per ;ke." T I would heartily recommend that every member of 2 Chamber of Commerce in Roosevelt re-pledge that he iilask every solicitor, other than those we know are not j -iking a house-to-house drive, for a "Blue Card," and art support them until they produce such credentials. . . . i fou'Ube doing your community and yourself a great ser-1 ser-1 i f v E v 1 Try putting your heart into your work and see how it puts heart into you. . L HLES FOR SUCCESSFUL PUBLIC SPEAKERS . . . 1. Talk about something you have earned a right to si about. 2. If you talk with animation your audience will for-E for-E many things. 3. Don't do anything to distract from what you are aying to what you are doing (such' as dangling your key , 4. Last and greatest rule when you are about half 3 -we, sit down. J From many sources , ; an-spEED plea .... e According to a recent article in Automotive News, a 'solution requesting the United States Congress to pro-' pro-' at the interstate use of motor vehicles capable of trav- i6 in excess of 75 miles an hour was proposed to the wna House of Representatives by its highways and -te committee. In offering the proposal, the committee said records eal that high speed "is the predominant cause of. aeon's ae-on's in which motor vehicles are involved." 3? Traffic Digest 30 |
