Show 100 Attend Stake FfUlen, Explorer Award Dinner One hundred men and boys from the Roosevelt Stake, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Lat-ter Day SaintsT plus several invited in-vited guests, joined together on March 6 at the .Roosevelt Stake House to enjoy a banquet, a fine program of music, and advice ad-vice and council from church leaders. The . dinner-meeting was the climax of a very successful basketball bas-ketball season in the stake, and special guests were the team members from the various wards that sponsored M-Men and Explorer teams. Awards were made as follows: M-Men sportsmanship, Myton ward; Ex plorer sportsmanship, Ballard; M-Men championship, Roosevelt Ward- Explorer championship, Neola. Awards were received and purchased by George Hacking Hack-ing stake YMMIA president; Floyd Ross, activity counselor; and Cecil Jenkins, athletic director. di-rector. Hollis Hullinger. stake president, made the. trophy presentation to the winners. Main speaker for the occasion was Joe Wood, division 14 sports director for the LDb Church. He talked on the need today for sportsmanship and commended the type of play: that was shown in the recent All-Church M-Men Tournament, which is the largest basketball program in the world. "If we can teach sportsmanship, we will soon build a better nation, he said. . . Other church leaders included includ-ed Howard Timpson, Salt Lake City, Alvin Weeks, Vernal; Presidents Pres-idents Hullinger and Russel Todd of the Roosevelt Stake Presidency, and members of the high council. Also attending as guests was an all-Indian basketball bas-ketball team from Ouray. Floyd Ross presided over the meeting as toastmaster. and the following program was presented: present-ed: Girls' vocal trio, Janet Stevens, Stev-ens, LaRae Drollinger and Janice Ja-nice Anderton, accompanied by Ann Payne; solo, Opal Timothy; boys' quartet from Ballard, di rected by Ned Gines. The meal was prepared and served by the YWMIA of the stake. " |
