Show Exhibition To End Arts & Grafts Course At Union Eli Professor Lorin G. Folland, Jr., member of 'the Department of art staff at the University of Utah, announced this week that the Arts and Crafts course which has been taught through the extension division- University Univer-sity of Utah, will come to a close on March 21 after fourteen four-teen weeks of intense study and work. At that time an exhibition exhibi-tion and social in the Union High School will be held. Tha general public is cordially invited in-vited to attend. Professor Folland conducted the class for the Extensio.i Division office, which has had a four month's duration period. Each Friday evening a new craft was demonstrated by Mr ! Folland. after which he assisted assist-ed the students in the designing and planning of their individual proiects. Work of unusually high quality qual-ity has been accomplished in block printing, Christmas decorations, dec-orations, wood and yarn toys, weaving, leather craft, costumo jewelry, ceramics, rag rug making, mak-ing, wood carving, puppet making, mak-ing, plastic designs, water colour col-our painting, textile design, and oil painting. The majority of the twenty-four twenty-four students enrolled were school teachers from the Roosevelt Roos-evelt area and Mr. Folland gave them much praise for their initiative in-itiative in the creation of their work. The ceramic display which will be on display Friday Fri-day evening will be one of the high creative efforts. "Since there is a close relationship rela-tionship between the arts and the quality of life being lived in a community," said Mr. Fol-land, Fol-land, "art education should receive re-ceive a careful academic consideration con-sideration to fulfill its roll in assisting man to seek and appreciate ap-preciate beauty. Art is not play, it is understanding nature the truth of all living then creating projects that will inspire in-spire and elate the public with greater knowledge." Mr. Folland has received recognition rec-ognition throughout the state and in the east for his oil paintings paint-ings and water colour work He follows the traditional style of constructive realistic representation. Mr. Folland received his Master Mas-ter of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Utah and has atuthe.
