Meet Duchesne High will represent Panama, Union High the Philippines, Philip-pines, and Altamont High will represent Finland at the second annual model United Nations conference con-ference to be held on the University Univer-sity campus April. 20 and 21.. All 76 member nations of the U.N. will be represented by one of the 60 schools participating in the conference which is being sponsored by' the Utah Assn. for the United Nations and by the U. Extension Division. Featured speaker will be' Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, former United States representative to the U.N. general assembly from 1942 to 1952. Mrs. Roosevelt, one of America's most prominent women, is chairman of the board of governors gov-ernors of the American Assn. for the U.N. An ardent supporter of the U.N., Mrs. Roosevelt received the first American award in human relations in 1949, while a year later she won the Four Freedoms award' and the Prince Carl Metal, the latter awarded by the' government govern-ment of Sweden. Her talk is scheduled on April 20 at 9:30 a.m. Plenary sessions will be held on the 20th, with committee' reports re-ports and votes scheduled for the 21st. Essay and poster contests as well as special "coverage" by high school newsman also will be part of the program. A N.N. dance' and floor show is scheduled for the Union Build- ing ballroom on the 20th as the main social event of the two-day meet. A colorful procession of flags will open the event. |
