Show Moon Lake Scouts Aid In Deer Count On Saturday, March 31, twenty Boy Scouts and Explorers of the Moon Lake Scout District, assisted State' Fish and Game officials, Ft. Duchesne tribal and Indian service ser-vice personnel and the Forest Service Ser-vice in conducting a deer count and deer winter range examination in the' Mud Spring Draw area north of Altonah. Friday, the evening before, a special pre-deer count program was held at the LDS chapel in Altonah with Lee Kay from Salt Lake City as the speaker. He discussed dis-cussed films he had with the 40 persons present. Lynn Nickell and Lloyd Stevens represented the Utah State' Fish and Game Department on the deer count. Orin Curry and Gale Wiel-ang Wiel-ang were present from Ft. Duchesne Du-chesne and Jesse Palm represented the Forest Service. Lunch was eaten at the Ashley National Forest For-est boundary in Mud Spring Draw. After lunch, Mr. Stevens led -an informative discussion of the objectives ob-jectives of game' management and the necessity for balancing deer numbers with current and available avail-able forage. During the discussion figures were tabulated and checked on the number of deer seen by the riders. Two hundred six deer had been seen. Boys participating included Joe Silversmith, Steve Evans, Laird Hartman and Carl Mohlman from Mt. Emmons; Wilford Anderson Dee Clark, Bob Dunsmore, Ray Fisher, Farrell Jacobson, Kent Maxfield, Dick Miller, -George Reay, Raymond Reay, Dean Shiner and Miles Shiner from Altonah; and Craig Lindsay, Clair Miles, Lloyd Miles, Jim Street and Steven Walker from Mt. Home. |
