Show This Week's RECIPE . . . Mrs. A. L. Norman, whose "Chocolate Cake" recipe appears ap-pears this week in the recipe column, states that she has never had a failure with this exceptionally ex-ceptionally good cake, which makes three layers and is very good. Chocolate Cake lVz cups sugar Vz cup shortening (no lard) 4 egg yolks 2 squares melted chocolate 2 cups pastry flour V teaspoon soda 1' teaspoon baking powder 1 cup cold water 4 egg whites stiffly beaten Vz cup nuts (optional) 1 teaspoon vanilla Cream sugar and shortening thoroughly. Add egg yolks and melted chocolate. Sift dry ingredients (except baking powder), and add alternately alter-nately with water to sugar mixture. mix-ture. Fold in egg whites, then, lastly, baking powder. Beat until thick, add nuts Bake in three layers or large dripper pan in moderate oven, 350 degrees, for 35 minutes, or until done. |
