Show Gity Tables Applications For Bulk Oil Tank Permits The mayor and city council Monday night at their regular semi-monthly meeting for June were greeted by delegations who : came in protest of proposed bulk oil storage tanks a certain oil company had indicated they yould erect within a block of the Elementary school, providing provid-ing the city would issue a building build-ing permit. Edwards, after hearing the petitioners and weighing all phases of the application, further fur-ther action was tabled pending ! a conference with officials of Uhe oil company, who will be contacted in the near future. At j this proposed meeting, more de-I de-I tailed information will be -se-i cured, which will assist the council in deciding the issue, i The city officials approved an application from Associated Oil Co., to construct a new retail service station near the south entrance to the city on Main 'street. However, an application ifor a bulk plant at this same 'site was also tabled by the Council pending the investigation investiga-tion of the other applicant, j Bond Election Set I Unless something arises to change their plans, the city has been advised by the bonding company of Salt Lake City, which is arranging for a bond election to supplement the water supply of Roosevelt city, the election will be held on August 21. Advertisements of the election elec-tion will begin on July 12. It was reported by Mayor Edwards that the City of Roosevelt Roos-evelt has started legal action against a property owner near the new Union high school to acquire a right-of-way for the school to' hook up with the city's sewer line. It has been announced an-nounced by the Union high board of education that one property pro-perty holder is holding up completion com-pletion of the school, which was slated to be ready by July 1. The sewage problem may delay this date for some time, unless a change in heart is decided on by the one man who is holding up the proposition. A New Police Car In the near future the City will have a brand new Ford police car, which was approved Monday night. According to the mayor, a bid from Labrum and Adams Co., Roosevelt, was accepted ac-cepted and the city will buy a regular stock car, to which special spe-cial police equipment will be added. To Ban Fireworks The one other main issue that came in for discussion at the Council meeting was the sale of fireworks and firecrackers in the City of Roosevelt. It was pointed out that any person per-son selling or buying or setting off any kind of fireworks in the State of Utah was inviola-tion inviola-tion of the law. It was reported officially that Duchesne county is going to crack down on this problem, and, Mayor Edwards said, "if the county insists on enforcing the law to the letter, so will Roosevelt city." Therefore anyone guilty of selling or shooting off fireworks of any kind in Roosevelt city is liable under the law. Instructions Instruc-tions have been given the city police force to enforce the law, I and they intend to do as the law I directs. |
