Show Dear Editor: I've heard quite a bit of talk about the morals of our young men being corrupted if Universal Univer-sal Military Training is placed in operation. I can't help feeling chat this is indeed a poor endorsement en-dorsement for our homes, chui" ches and schools. I seriously doubt that if a young man grows up in a fine atmosphere for 18 years that six months' training will make a criminal or a drunkard of him. There would be far greater likelihood of his becoming an undesirable citizen if he is denied de-nied the benefit of these friend ly, guiding influences whic'i only our continuance as a fre nation guarantees to us. We must have military strength, the choice is in the method by which this strength can be obtained and maintained William Sutteer, r ?' Vice Commander, Utah Dept., American Legion Dear Editor: I received a gift subscription to the Roosevelt Standard last year for Christmas and have enjoyed en-joyed it all through the year. The guys used -to- kid me about having a map on the fron of my hometown newspaper They asked me if it was so small people had to have a map to find it. I just received the Oct. 16 edition, the mail service, bein a little slow out here in Korea, and found the map was missing on the front. I said to some of the guys that it was the first paper I'd got that didn't .have a map on the front and one of the "wise guys" asked me if you thought the town was big enough to find now without a map. I find out here that Roosevelt Roos-evelt is much better known as the "Crook in the Road." I'm sort of proud of my hometown; home-town; anyway it's the place I'm coming back to when I get out of the Navy. I also think you are doing a fine job as editor and have helped to improve the town with your editorials. Well, that's about all I have to say. Please excuse the messv letter, but it's all the paper T have left. Sincerely yours, J. Lee "Bud" Felter, DSFN 369 60 13 USS Uhlmann, D D 687 co FPO San Francisco, Ca'if. |
