Show acAcMvtct !fautce& "News Bill About Yester-Years" 5 Years Ago Marion Baumgaertel. son of Mr. and Mrs. John Baumgaertel returned to Roosevelt Dec. 20 to spend the Christmas holt days, and while here received a Christmas present from Uncle Sam word of his promotion to 2nd Lieutenant. Returning with Alfred was Leon Fenn, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Fenn. Leon and Alfred enlisted in the Navy at the same time, have been together during their two year's of service, and each received his discharge at the same time. Uncle Sam went even further this week he "called Lt. R. Earl Dillman, USN, to two week's active duty. Earl will report to his station January 11 and will take off on the USS Toledo for Pacific ports. The E. J. Prescott residence at Neola was the scene of a lovely home wedding on Monday, Mon-day, Dec. 15, when Miss Verena Simmons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Simmons, of Tridell, became the bride of Ralph Prescott. It was "Happy Birthday" for Carol Lynn Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Cook, on Dec. 19, when she celebrated her tenth anniversary with a party at the Homer Edwards residence. 10 Years Ago Weldon and Alma Richman, Charles Iorg and Karl Shisler, who are all attending Brigham Young University, and Lewis Taylor, a student at L D S Business Busi-ness College, are home from school for the Christmas vacation. vaca-tion. Saturday night, Dec. 19, the turkey pickers at the Lee Brown Poultry Plant sponsored a supper and dance at the Legion Le-gion Hall. Lalla Groft. Mildred Mowery, Reda Swain and Tom White made up the committee in charge. Lovely in every detail was the Trausseau Tea given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Heber T. Hall, Sunday, Dec. 20. honoring their daughter, Katherine. who will be united in marriage the first of the year. Mrs. Ray Earl Dillman was honored at an informal reception recep-tion tea given Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Jesse Allen, with Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Homer P. Edwards as hostesses. Miss Margaret Ferron. who is attending the U of U this year, is home for the holidays. 20 Years Ago Hazel Page, daughter of S. R. Page, of Roosevelt, has been chosen as outstanding 4-H girl of Duchesne County. Wednesday at the high school assembly, Hazel was presented with a very beautiful medal and was chosen from three winners as the outstanding club girl in the state, being awarded a free trip to Chicago. Verland S. Nelson, better known as "Bill," has just composed com-posed and completed a striking, praiseworthy three - act love drama. Bill is the son of Lars Nelson, a well-known pioneer of the Basin. He is a graduate from D C H S and entered the BYl in the fall of 1927, where h: jtudied dramatic art. Miss Lizzie Perry, of Mont wel, and Joe Yack, of Neol were married recently in Sail Lake City. Members of the Ted Harmston family have all been ill with flu, but are now able to be up and around. |
