Ordinances To Regulate Water, Traffic, Sever, Truck Business Six new ordinances will be written into the books and become be-come law in the City of Roosevelt Roose-velt with the beginning of the new year. One affects traffic I movement on main street; two pertain to the city's new sewer I system; one governs the city's water department, and the other concerns business licenses. At the last regular meeting of the city council, an ordinance was passed making it unlawful for drivers of motor vehicles to make a U-turn on the intersection intersec-tion of Main and Lagoon streets. Ordinance No. 444 as passed by the city council levies a 50c per month sewer maintenance fee that will be paid quarterly I the same as water assessments j are paid. According to Mayor J. V. McLea, the cost of maintaining main-taining the city's sewage dis posal system had made it mandatory man-datory that a fee be levied : against those receiving this ser I vice, which is termed a sewer operation and maintenance charge. i The other sewer ordinance. No. 446, increases the initial connection sewage fee from $200 to $300 for residential connections, connec-tions, and $400 for business establishments. es-tablishments. A $300 charge had been made previously for business busi-ness connections. The water ordinance. No. 447, calls for a $50.00 connection fee for any residence or business es tablishment which connects to the city's water system. The fee is payable in advance, as are all I fees specified in the new or- I dinance. Roosevelt has never in the past had an ordinance that made it possible for them to charge a business license to individuals carrying on a business of selling or delivering goods, wares, or merchandise from . a vehicle within the city limits. Ordinance No. 445, passed by the council, and which becomes law the dav it is published, makes it legal to collect a fee of $40.00 per year for the first vehicle and $30.00 for every other vehicle (Continued on back page) City Ordinances . Roosevelt is one of the last cities ci-ties to . establish such an ordinance ordin-ance on-its books. Ordinance No. 448 relates to persons carrying on a Dusiness, trade or profession which requires re-quires a city license. Such a law has been operative in the city, but no' provisions were contained contain-ed therein that allowed a penalty pen-alty if delinquent, or gave the city the lawful right to force collection. The new ordinance has such teeth and' will be rigidly ri-gidly enforced. : All ordinances referred to in this story will be found printed in detail on page 9 of this newspaper, news-paper, and become effective on its publication day, which is Jan. 1, 1952. |
