The secret, ladies, is: always keep your hands well manicured. Dorothy Staffieri's work calls for her putting stockings in boxes at the Philadelphia plant of the Gotham Hosiery Company. How many stockings she snags out of the thousands is a professional secret. But it can be revealed that it's fewer than one per cent, which is far better than the national average for women stocking wearers. wear-ers. Two full-time manicurists are busy each day taking care of the hands of Dorothy and her fellow employees. 'Even the men whose job calls for handling stockings must get adaily manicure. - The manicurist makes a test you can carry out yourself. She uses a sterile cotton ball to find any rough cuticles and nail edges, or any roughness of the nails or cuticle which catch the cotton strands and warn of danger spots for possible hosiery snags. Chipped Chip-ped nail polish is speedily removed by moistening a cotton ball with remover and holding it on the nail for half a second to soften the polish, which can then be wiped away in one downward stroke. Baby your hands as the hosiery workers do if you'd save your stockings, Dorothy points out. She and her 700 co-workers have found that the frequent use of a lubricating lotion, such as a baby lotion, will help keep them free from roughness. Also, she warns, be sure to dry your hands care-, fully after each washing. If you're looking for the world's . best groomed hands, look in a hos-j iery mill, this expert saysy- |
