Show Farm Housing G&ts Started The Farm Housing program, authorized by the recent act of Congress, has been launched in Duchesne county. Applications for loans to build or repair farm houses and other farm buildings are being received at the Farm-j Farm-j ers Home Administration county I office at Roosevelt, according to Anthon B. Christensen, Farmers Home Administration county supervisor. su-pervisor. Loans may run for a maximum maxi-mum of 33 years, at 4 interest, and can be made to farm owners own-ers who cannot obtain farm loans from their banks or other sources, Christensen states, Owners Own-ers who qualify can also get loans for improving housing for their tenant. All loans are subject sub-ject to approval by the local three-member Farmers Home Administration county committee. commit-tee. The Housing Act provides for a four year period of loan making. mak-ing. The appropriation for the current year is $27,000,000 for the entire country, which will mean about five loans for each agricultural county, with an estimated es-timated average of $2,200 per loan. The authorized congressional congres-sional appropriation for the four years is $275,000,000. Veterans' will receive preference. Christensen has predicted that most loans will go to farmers with farm earnings and other income sufficient to repay the loan, plus interest, without further fur-ther help from the government. He expects most loans will be for repairs and remodeling rather rath-er than for new construction. A loan may also be mSde to" a farm owner whose income is not considered adequate to repay re-pay the loan on' schedule, if his income can be made sufficient by enlarging or developing his farm and by improving his farm enterprise. If the owner follows a previously agreed upon plan for making needed revisions, the government will help him on his payments, if necessary, during" dur-ing" the first five years. Loans may also be made to eliminate hazards to a family's health and safety. With borrowers bor-rowers needing this type of assistance as-sistance it will be possible to include up to $500.00 of the $1,000.00 total in the form of a grant. In this connection, Mr. Christensen said the appropriation appropria-tion included $2,000,000.00 for grants and farm enlargement and development loans. |
