Show Jaycees And Lions Take On Tennis Court As Project THE Roosevelt Junior Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce and the Roosevelt Roose-velt Lions Club have joined forces for-ces to take over the local tennis courts and effect permanent improvements im-provements that will make them a center of recreation. At an estimated cost of $1500, the plans call for a complete resurfacing of the present two I courts, the addition of another one, and the fencing of the entire en-tire 140 x 118 foot plot. Both j widening and lengthening of the I courts will be necessary under the improvement program. With work scheduled to start immediately, the Jaycees, who will assume direct supervision of the project, are asking- for men and trucks to lend a free hand in carrying the undertaking to a successful completion. The new court will be for public pub-lic use and will serve a dual purpose. pur-pose. The imperative need of the sponsors is labor and equipment. In order tb keep the construction costs at a minimum, use of equipment equip-ment and donated labor is being solicited. Funds to cover the cost of the project have been pledged to date by the following: Roosevelt LDS ward, $125; Roosevelt Second Sec-ond ward, $125; Lions club, $250; Junior Culture club, $12.50. The Jaycees, who will provide for the labor and handle the supervision, su-pervision, will also pledge funds. Bill Murdock is heading the project as general chairman, and will also have charge of the construction con-struction of backstops and fencing. fen-cing. Rube Larsen will direct the laying out of the courjs and supervise excavation; and Howard How-ard Ivory has been assigned the task of supplying the gravel. The new courts will be completed com-pleted and ready for use during the summer. |
