Show Fishing Becomes Legal June 12 F and G Dept. Sees Good Year Trout fishing in- Utah will open June 12 at 5:00 a. m. That's just three more weeks or less, which is notification to the state's sportsmen that tackle should be checked and made ready for the first day. The June 12 opening will be for all lower streams and lakes, and will not include the high Uinta lakes and the streams above the 7,000 foot elevation where the native trout are still spawning. Strawberry Reservoir, which has always opened at a later date in years past, will open on June 12. Fish Lake and Deer Creek Reservoir will also be j opened on that date. The daily bag limits for this season are the same as last seven pounds and (or) one fish, or 15 fish, whichever is caught first. The possession limit is the same as the daily bag. Fishing hours this summer will be from 5;00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. throughout through-out the season. Size limits are seven-inch minimum. Fishing- this year should be better than ever, considering the . number of people who will go out. License sales to date have already indicated a larger turnout turn-out for the trout season, Ross Leonard fish and game director, reports. Meanwhile fish planting in Utah is well under way. Those streams which have passed their run-off peak and are settled down to summer consistency have begun to receive attention from the Utah hatcheries. "No stream will be stocked until it is free from spring runoff run-off dangers," Mr. Leonard said. "This sometimes nlaccs a last- minute rush on the hatchery fa-I fa-I cilities. but in the interest of conserving fish the state has been required to adopt this policy. All lakes and streams which will open to fishing June 12 will have been stocked." Much of the planting is being-carried being-carried on in cooperation with the fish and game groups. This added manpower gives the state a chance to get into the streams and scatter the fish better, Leonard Leon-ard stated. |
