Show Campaign Costs Up Senator Carl Hatch, of New Mexico, who fathered the "clean politics law" of 1939, which limited lim-ited the annual expenditures of a national party to $3,000,000. admits that the "costs of the campaign this year are bound to be higher." It is worse than the above state ment sounds. Despite the law it is generally agreed that the last two presidential campaigns involved in-volved the expenditure of about $20,000,000 each. Just how this was handled, in view of the law, makes interesting speculation. |
