Show Sports And Horse Racing GortiniEffee hl!s mmil Spots On Utah Indian Days Field Event aSendar An Indian Days celebration smacking .of the once popular UBIC, became apparent this week when the sports and racing committee met to fill in the vacant va-cant spots on its calendar. With a loaded program, which includes in-cludes one or two minor revisions, re-visions, the vigorous features of the celebration may well outdo anything offered by the old UBIC. The list of events looks good, and Co-General Chairman Steve Bellon, who is captaining the sports attractions, is confident that they will appear equally good on the field.' Horse racing, heretofore filling fill-ing the slack spots between rodeo events, is replacing the custom- 'ary wild-west show as the main sports event of the celebration. On both Thursday and Friday, the starting gate will open at 2 p. m. to begin a daily 3-hour racing schedule. Some of the best track stock from Utah points and western Colorado will run the course on Utah Indian Days. Boxing, under the sponsorship of the Roosevelt Boys club, had been planned lo take up the slack between races. But the matter of transporting outside contestants has brought about the cancellation 'of the fight card, Saddle horse racing has been substituted to fill the gaps between the main track events, This year's Indian Days will literally take over the town, ac cording to E. J. Nixon, who is directing all activities outside of the recreational area. The municipal mu-nicipal park will be the center of uptown happenings. Indian programs, softball, and two evenings eve-nings of dancing will draw the attention of celebration visitors. As an added evening attraction, attrac-tion, arrangements are being made for the showing of a series ser-ies of wildlife films by a representative rep-resentative of the Fish and Game department. The pictures will be shown at the park. Mr, Nixon, who has directed other Indian Days, Monday night expressed optimism over the way the two-day program is lining lin-ing up, and expressed his gratitude grati-tude for the support now being given the celebration committee. |
