Show Historic Mayan Discovery i"irT7j , 7 "I'C" . .J n J ' ''.'TTP""T MEXICO SOUNDPHOTO The discovery of eleven Mayan temples in lower Mexico whose, history dates possibly as much as 1 450 years, has just been disclosed. The temples believed to have been built between 495 and 672 A. D., were found in the ancient Mayan stronghold at Bonampak in the remote Mexican frontier region of Chiapas. Their discovery is regarded as one of 'the most outstanding archeological events of recent years. Giles G Healey, Yale-educated archeologist, who. headed the expedition which uncovered the historic findings, is shown left, with a La-candone La-candone Indian. There are approximately 200 Lacandpnes remaining remain-ing and are the last of the pure Mayas. ' |
