Show Information Concerning Utah Deer Hunts A digest giving essential information in-formation on the 1945 hunting seasons in Utah has been prepared prepar-ed by R. L. Turpin, big game supervisor, as result of myriad inquiries reaching the Utah Fish and Game Commission. Lifting of gas rationing has considerably hiked interest, particularly on the part of California Cali-fornia and Nevada hunters, said Director Ross Leonard. The digest (taken from the official proclamation published last week) is being mailed without with-out charge in response to all inquiries. in-quiries. Some important highlights are listed: Utah's regular deer season is Oct. 20 to 30 inclusive. The regular reg-ular elk hunt is Nov. 10 to 19. There will be a post-season elk hunt on Mt. Nebo (125 permits) to coincide with post-season deer hunts as held in the past. Dates are Dec. 1 to 10. Thirty-six special areas have been designated for taking 14,500 antlerless deer. An additional addi-tional 1,200 deer of either sex may be taken in five other specially-designated areas. Most of the does will be hunted hunt-ed during the regular deer sea son, although in some areas doe hunting is extended to Nov. 2 and Nov. 11. The post-season hunts (with one exception) are also for does or animals of either sex. Hunters who wish doe permits for Green and Logan Canyons, Providence, Blacksmith Fork, Little Bear River, Kamas, Hebcr, Strawberry, Salt Lake County (including East Heaston Preserve), Pre-serve), Grantsville, Timpanogos, Diamond Fork, North and South Nebo, Twelve-Mile, Daggett County, and the Terry and New Harmony districts of the Dixie Forest must make application at the nearest county courthouses before Sept. 5. A public drawing will be held on Sept. 8 for the limited permits. Salt Lake County will again have its special buck hunt for 750 animals in the Wasatch Range. Something new has been added, however, with a postseason post-season buck hunt for 150 animals on the east side of the Oquirrh range, Dec. 1 to 10. Archers this season can hunt the Emigration Canyon drainage in Salt Lake County as well as the Mt. Ogden preserve south of the Ogden River from Oct. 20 to Nov. 5. All special permits will cost residents $2.00 in addition to the required $3 hunting license. Elk permits cost the usual $10. and again this year are limited to Utah residens only. Out-of-stat-ers are eligible to apply for any of the special deer permits except ex-cept those in Salt Lake County. |
