Show FROM ALABAMA LETTER frol FRO missionary C R SPENCER OF RANDOLPH thinking a few lines from me might be of interest to your renders readers I 1 will on leavor deavor to write a fow missionary notes hoping you will kindly accept the same 1 I left my dear old mountain home on the early morning of november 7 1896 accompanied by elder allen alien B snowball both being called to fill a mission in the southern states on reaching salt lake city we met sixteen other elders eldero with cheerful hearts anil and smiling faces ve e mounted the iron horse and after a long tiresome ride of three days and four nights ats we reached chattanooga tennessee I 1 was then than assigned to laborin the south alabama conference feeling the position I 1 was in all and the labors that were required of me I 1 felt weak and felt that it was beyond my my power and reach to f ill fill such a position tio n ant knowing I 1 was called of god and if I 1 proved faithful and prayerful he would ald aid and assist me in my endeavors to do right although I 1 had bad no education had never experienced traveling through the world sv orld anil and especially on an occasion of this kind but the savior says be that will not sacrifice his house lands father mother sister and brother for my names sake is not worthy of me and I 1 felt that it was my duty to try and fill this thia grand and noble position in sowing the seeds of truth and righteousness truth and reason make us men take these away what are we then mere animals and just as aa well the beasts may think of heaven or hell the plan of salvation the commandments of god and the pattern that our savior set for us to follow that we may again get back into the presence of our alwis and eternal father ile he that formed the world through faith and by his hia power lie ile is ia the one wo we want to look to ile he is ia the one we want to know ife he is ia the one wo we want to praise and give glory to for the many blessings and comforts of life lifa he can give to all and take from a all I 1 and if we serve him to the best of our knowledge H he e will bless us ua although vain I 1 am sorry to say isay that ft a great many of us dont appreciate preci ate the many blessings and comforts of life we do receive there are hundreds of fa milias millas here where I 1 am that do not know where their supplies for the coming year are coming from while others are very well to do but take the people of the south as a rule they are a very hospitable class of people although they are prejudiced against the cormons mormons Mor Morr mons rions but prejudice is falling before us as aa the walls of jericho fell before joshua aud and they are finding out the mormons cormons are not such such it a barbarous class as they have heard and many of them are embracing the plan of salvation the tha elders of the south alabama conference had bad the privilege lega of baptizing about one hundred and fifty into the church of christ during the past year and are working with untiring vim that they may have the privilege of doubling that hat number this year thus you see the church of christ is growing and increasing all tho the timo time and the people of the south will be able to see a mormon ube whenever never they want to and they will not ue de so likely to strain their eye eves as some of them have been doing some of 0 thorn them look to see bee what kind of horns borns the cormons mormons have and they always find out they have the horn of truth the gospel of christ which is to be preached as a witness unto the world then shall iniquity cease and snail cover the earth as alie waters cover the mighty deep my wishes and prayers to the people of randolph are that they will hold fast the faith that we may all meet in the realms above where all is well and god 13 love oh 1 the precious name of jesus it has as power to make me bravo brave bold and strong to speak for jesus telling how he came to save CHAS R SPENCER brantley alabama march 12 1897 |
