The Annual O'id Folks Day was held in the Opera House Thursday, January 23, 1913. It was a successful success-ful gathering, a time of rejoicing long to be remembered. For a week past and during the early part of the day the commit tees were busy making mak-ing all necessar y arrangements tbat all the honored guests m ight have a good time. B' 10 o'clock the drivers with sleighs 'began to bring the aged people to tl ie Opera House. At 12 o'clock noor. 179 people sat down to the Well spread tables which consisted consist-ed -0f two long rows, one on each side O'f the hall "laden with the palatable and good things of life. 'I. M. AUred one of the oldest pioneers said grace and the banquet lasted for nearly two hours, until all present partook of the repast. Lunches were sent out to those who were sick and not able to attend. At 2 o'clock an excellent ex-cellent program was rendered as follows: J. F. Allred acted as Master of Ceremonies. Song, Congregation, "Our God We Raise to Thee." Greetings to the old folks, Hon. J. Samuel Allred gave a historical account ac-count of the 23rd Annual Old Folk-' gatherings that had been held in this city from the commencement of the events. Closing Clos-ing song, Ladies quartette After the program ice cream and lunch was served to all present. and during the lunch hour the John Davis Dav-is orchestra discussed sweet music. The oldest man present was George Brough, inearly 90 years old and the oldest lady present was Ellen Niel-son, Niel-son, 88 y ears old. There was quite a number present, who crossed the plains with ox teams and hand carts. Four couples present had celebrated their golden wedding day. Spring City has one old couple, who had been married 70 years last New Years day,P ;ter C. Madsen and wife. He is 92 yea rs old and his wife is about 88 yeajs old. In the evening there was a grand ball in the O'pera House for all the old and mari'ied people of the town. Much credit is due the old folks committee com-mittee for thte brilliant success they have thus achieved in bringing joy and gladness to the hearts of the aged and widows of our city. Heaven Heav-en must smiley at actions of this kind, and we are glad to know that annual greetings of thus kind are being held each year, wheti the old folks can be honored with a da of real social enjoyment. |
