Terry Campbell, women's association; as-sociation; Dave Toone, men's association; Michelle Byler, Wendy Rasmussen, Ernie Freckleton and Mike Van as senators. i COACH John Robison has I Mike Van, a BHS junior, recently broke the world's record for bouncing a basketball basket-ball for nearly two straight days without letup. Mike's fete was part of the world of records carnival held at Bountiful High last Friday, May 9. For other record breakers, see Bravetalk. been named to fill the position of head basketball coach. He is presently the sophomore basketball and sophomore and junior varsity baseball -coach at BHS. In the recent region two tennis tournament, the Bountiful Boun-tiful Braves placed second, with Jeff Clarkson, Matt Weed and Dave Turner qualifying for the state tournament. tour-nament. In addition, Turner and Weed were the Region II . doubles champions. ALL BRAVE participants took their first matches, but to qualify for state at least two matches must have been won. In track, Bountiful's medley relay, consisting of Mark Dickerson, Scott Johnson, John-son, Steve Porter and JR Trease, took first place at the region track tournament. THE MILE relay of Scott Johnson, Larry Barnett, JR Trease and Steve Porter took second place. Rawfee Perkins was third in the 220 and JR Trease was third in the mile. All of the above have qualified for state. As a fund raiser for the Debra Kent fund, BHS held a carnival with the different organizations and clubs setting set-ting up booths of games and food last Friday. As part of the carnival, several students took part in an attempt to break world records. THOSE broken were by: Mike Van who bounced a basketball for 31 consecutive hours; Jill Garner, Sue Sparenburg, Charlin Green, Tanya Briggs, and Shannon Allred who set a new record for women's marathon brick carrying. They carried a 7 pound brick for 4 miles. The previous record was 3.2 miles. A new record was set for coloring in a coloring book by Lisa Beck, Syd Christensen, and Janet Jordan who each colored in a separate book to set the record at 22 hours. EIGHTEEN hours and thirty minutes was the amount of time a 10 girl team spent on a giant teeter-totter to also set a new record. Richard Siddoway, a teacher at Bountiful High, claims the world record for writing in more different ways with his eyes closed. He wrote forward, backward, upside down, and backward, with his hands going in different directions, and two different words with one hand at the same time. MARSHALL Crawford, studentbody president said that several hundred dollars was raised by the carnival for the fund. |
