Show Ddvs School Board Accepts Plans For Sbltcrcil noFlishon By LE ANN BLODGETT Preliminary plans for an addition to the Davis County Development Center (sheltered (shel-tered workshop) were accepted accept-ed and bid opening date set for June 24. "WE HAVE tried to size up serious problems regardless of where they fall. We are a little behind but never worried about whether they are north or south," said Superintendent Superinten-dent Bernell Wrigley. Board Member Dr. Reed Marchant pointed out growth in the south end, saying it looked like Woods Cross High School's completion would be needed in three years. "WE HAVE done quite a bit on the high school level and maybe need to make sure we are taking care of elementary and junior," said Superintendent Superinten-dent Wrigley. He made the comment in response to a . board member who asked about the possibility of gyn-masium gyn-masium additions to Clearfield Clear-field and Bountiful High Schools. "The developmental center is getting contracts from many companies," said the Superintendent. This provides work for the seriously handicapped. han-dicapped. They have been using us-ing a rented facility. "PARENTS have made many requests for children and some not so young to work there," said Supt. Wrigley. Robert Daniels has been running run-ning the workshop part of it, he said. Building Superintendent DeWayne Jay showed plans for an addition to Monte Vista which will include kitchen additions ad-ditions to serve students at the sheltered workshop as well as the school. PLANS showed a tunnel instead in-stead of the originally planned through-the-ceilinp. drop for utilities from the oTd building to the new addition of the special school. "This will also provide a foundation for the eastsideof the building," said Mr. Jay. The addition is expected to cost $150,000. MR. JAY asked the board members to approve the key plan even though some changes were being made. He said he needed time to get it through the "paper mill" (referring to the state offices) before the June 24 bid opening. open-ing. ' The suggested capital outlay budget for 1975-76 include Monte Vista addition, $150, 00C; site purchases, $300,000; equipment, $350,000; South Weber Elementary, $1 .5 million; E.G. King Elementary Elemen-tary (Layton), $2.1 million; site improvement, $200,000; North Davis Junior kitchen, $100,000. CENTRAL Davis library, art and kitchen, $500,000; West Bountiful kitchen, $200,000; South Clearfield kitchen and multipurpose room, $200,000; Bountiful Elementary kitchen and multipurpose, mul-tipurpose, $200,000; Davis High Library and media, $200,000 and miscellaneous, $500,000. Assistant Supt. Robert Ked-dington Ked-dington presented enrollment projections. It is difficult to project growth for schools such as Woods Cross High (which is not equipped to handle students in the senior year). THE AMOUNT of homes being built is no longer a reliable way to judge the increase in student population, popula-tion, explained the superintendent. superin-tendent. Sometimes the larger homes have less students. Projections show little growth in secondary schools in the district through 1980. |
