You may , -' have some plants in the garden gar-den or the markets have a j plentiful supply at this season, i THE TART sauce is a r'' favorite with many people V. now, or you may like to try a Rhubarb Custard pie. Columbia (Mrs. Leland) Ar-" Ar-" gyle makes this delightful pie j with fresh rhubarb or it can !. ' also be made using the frozen ':' rhubarb. Instead of plain two crust ;- pie, try it with a custardy j . filling which Mrs. Argyle I "1 " even tops with slightly sweet-J sweet-J ":" ened whipped cream. ' .: RHUBARB CUSTARD PIE 1 quart rhubarb cut in 1 -:.:inch pieces - - " cups sugar 2Tbsp. flour y4 tsp. salt : li tsp. nutmeg 2 eggs MIX SUGAR, flour, salt and ' nutmeg and stir in the slightly beaten eggs and add the rhubarb, mixing well. Put into a 9 inch pie plate lined with pastry and cover with a top crust in which slits for steam have been cut. Flute edges and trim. Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes or until un-til light brown. Can be served warm or cold with or without whipped cream or ice cream. PASTRY . 2lt cup flour 1 tsp. salt l2 tsp. baking powder cup lard or vegetable shortening 6 Tbsp. cold water. Sift dry ingredients and cut in shortening until granular. Sprinkle water over mixture, blend lightly with fork and add water just until dough clings together, not wet. Let stand 5 minutes and roll, fitting fit-ting into pan. This is enough for the 2 crusts. COLUMBIA Argyle and husband Leland, live at 117 North 800 West in West Bountiful, Boun-tiful, where he has lived all his life and Columbia has lived in this area since their marriage. They have four daughters, Karleen A. Winegar who lives in Bountiful; Doris A. Keith, Santa Ana, Calif.; LaVinia Robins, Provo and Donna A. Wood, Farmington. Donna has given us a very popular recipe for her delicious Brownies. The couple has 15 grandchildren. MRS. ARGYLE enjoys cooking, candy making, oil painting, gold leafing and collects antiques. Her husband hus-band has retired from construction con-struction work so they do a lot of traveling, jk |
