Show TO UoUe (So Dill D OH 01 - A board meeting of the "Utah Transit Authority" convened yesterday and was hosted by Dick Adams, UTA director from Layton, at Ken's Cafe in Layton. i COMMISSIONERS Stan Smoot, Glen Flint and Bill (Moss were in attendance,1 i representing the interest of Davis County residents. As many Davis residents have been told that the UTA service would cease after July 1, 1975, Commissioner Smoot asked the board as to where does Davis County transportation transpor-tation needs go from here, and if July 1 was a firm cut off date for their services. MR. GOODRICH, one of the UTA directors indicated he did not know where the July 1 cut off date originated and it was the UTA's feelings that as long as funds were available for busses to travel from Salt Lake City toOgden, through Davis CountyTthey certainly would stop and pick up passengers pas-sengers in Davis County. But not for the reduced price. Commissioner Smoot then asked how long can the service ser-vice last using the current funds available? As the UTA 'i tax increase was being considered to be brought before the Davis residents f again this fall to give them a second chance for accepting this required service at reduced fare. IT IS desired that the bus service be continued until all cities in Davis County have time to complete the vote. The UTA indicated that current funds could continue busses in Davis County until mid October and if the county could release $93,400, services could continue until the end of the year. ' COMMISSIONER Moss indicated in-dicated that many people have called him wondering how they would get to Salt Lake City or Ogden after the bus system shuts down in Davis County. Commissioner Flint, also said, many people are concerned con-cerned about obtaining a permanent per-manent UTA in Davis County as it now costs them 75 cents per trip and it would only be 30 cents if we accepted the '4 cent tax increase. MR. RICHARDSON of the UTA asked Commissioner Flint what other revenue sources could be introduced to support the bus system in lieu of the 4 cent tax increase. Commissioners Flint and Smoot indicated there was no other source. It was felt that the l4 cent tax was shot down in Davis County because of a few people advertising against the program and selling the public. THEREFORE the public was not aware of the benefit the UTA could be to the county or they would have voted for it. The commissioners indicated indicat-ed they could call for an immediate im-mediate vote or wait until the November elections. The later being cheaper for the county will most likely be selected. THE VOTING will not include a choice of low fare or no fare as the low fare rate was selected by the public in 1974. A Mini Bus "dial a buss' system is being considered for wheel chair and handicapped han-dicapped people. THE SALT Lake City and Ogden Terminals are scheduled for renovating and ir.odernization beginning at about two or three weeks. The improvements will be additional and more modern rest rooms, waiting areas and driver scheduling areas. Also new waiting shelters are being built and will be distributed soon . |
