Show Forest Notes Personal Mention Ranger Edward P. Cox will assist as-sist in putting over aForest Service Serv-ice program with the C. C. C. camps near St. George. He will leave chortly fcr that locality. Forest Clerk R. C. Shinnick returned re-turned to Ephraim on the evening of January 7 after spending the Christmas holidays with his family in Pueblo. He reports having encountered en-countered difflcultiei; travelling between be-tween the Colorado line and Rock Springs due to high wind and driftinf snow in that locality. Aside from that, the trip was very satisfactory. sat-isfactory. Ranger Ollerton spent the holidays holi-days with his family in Springville. S. S. Van Boskirk spent January 4, 5 and 6 in Emery Ccunty checking check-ing up on Government materials and equipment. Ranger Thursby spent two oi three days in Salt Lake during the holidays, and Supervisor Humphrey spent two days in Provo. Aside from this, the Forest Officer!? hung fairly fair-ly close to the job during the holiday holi-day season. Snow Measurements Ranger Thurfcby reports that the sncw measurements at Wire Grass Flat and the Experiment Station on January 3 were reasonably good, there being 27 inches of ijnow on the ground with a water content of 6 inches at the station. The Marvin sonw gauge showed a dotal acum-ulation acum-ulation of moisture for December of 4.34 inches. This includes the storms of January 1 and 2. Tne measurements on January 3 exceed ex-ceed the amount for 1930, 1931 and 1933, according to Ranger Thursby's report, 1932 showed a greater depth of snow and a higher water content than was found this month. Ranger Anderson and S. S. Van Boskirk made a trip into Lower Joe's Valley, on January 5. They reported re-ported approximately fi inches of "now on the level near the head of Straight Canyon. This Is only ap-proximately ap-proximately 50 percent of the snow in that locality a year ago. The winter is yet young however, so we hope for more favorable conditions between now and spring. According to Ranger Ollertcn, the .mow is somewhat deeper in the Gooseberry and Flat Canyon section sec-tion than it is at the Experimen; Station.
