Writes book Lewis Harmer Author of Book On 'Revelation' Revelation is a new book written writ-ten by Lewis J. Harmer, and published pub-lished by Bookcraft, Salt Lake City. The volume is a sincere attempt at-tempt to approach every phase of revelation and to analyze its meaning mean-ing and purpose. It provides a convincing analysis of the part revelation has played throughout the history of the church in this dispensation as well 'as in previous prev-ious dispensations. The author has laid a solid foundation for his book by his analysis of personal revelation as well as revelation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Revelation is defined as "Communication "Com-munication between mortal and immortal im-mortal beings." Succeding chapters discuss the different types of revelations, rev-elations, that is, the method of giving the communication. Revelation Revel-ation by personal visit -is accomplished accom-plished by an immortal being actually act-ually visiting a mortal person. Revelation Re-velation by vision is the viewing of scenes or events -as shown from spiritual source. Relevation by translation is the interpreting of one language into another with divine assistance. Revelaiton by inspiration in-spiration is the receiving of information infor-mation without. the aid of the usual sensory organs of sight and hearing. Each type of revelation is illustrated illus-trated and discussed with numerous numer-ous examples from Church History. These modem experiences in revelation revel-ation provide the basis for an interesting in-teresting book which will provide many hours of profitable reading. The Doctrine and Covenants is thoroughly analyzed as a collection collec-tion of latter day revelai-ons. The dominant theme is that revelation has been a continuing process and did not stop with the death of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Numerous Numer-ous revelatios received since 1847 are presented in detail. The chapter chap-ter on personal revelation will be of great value to the individual reader. It clearly explains the processes by which each of us can contact spiritual sources for help and information. Some of the important and interesting in-teresting questions answered in the book are: Can Man See God and Live? Why is the last revelation revel-ation in the Doctrine and Covenants Coven-ants dated 1847? What is the nature of God and how do we know ? Why is the gift of tongues discouraged? Are all revelations that have been received by the Church in the Doctrine -and Covenants? Coven-ants? What is the key to personal revelation? Did Joseph Smith always al-ways speak under the influence of revelation? In what way can the Book of Mormon be called! a revelation ? |
