Show i j1 THE MAYOR REPORTS Representatives from the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove Riding Club met with the City Council Monday night relative rel-ative to plans for the 1957 Straw-beriy Straw-beriy Days Rodeo. According to the arrangements approved, any profit resulting from the rodeo will be used to improve the park. The wire fence n'cw being constructed con-structed along the north and west borders of the park has been financed fin-anced by funds from this source. In this project, the Mayor express-el express-el sincere appreciation to Councilman Council-man John S. Green for his interest inter-est and loyal assistance. Mr. Green has donated considerable time and labor in erecting the fence and cleaning up the entire park area. Citizens of 'the Allenhurst district dis-trict presented a petition to the city council 'asking that curb and gutter be consructed along Second West between Center Street and Second North. Arthur Meredith, a member of Highway 91 Association, met with the city council and explained the nation-wide -activities of his group. According to Mr. Meredith, an extensive ex-tensive advertising program is currently going forward calling attention at-tention to the -attractions along the "Lincoln System" which includes in-cludes Highways 91, 30, and 40, extending from Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles to Chicago and on to New York City. "Thousands of illustrated brochures bro-chures have been distributed -thru-out the United States calling attention at-tention to the scenic and accomodation accom-odation advantages of the "Lincoln "Lin-coln System," Mr. Meredith explained. ex-plained. Mr. Meredith is to be commended commend-ed for his loyal and spirited enthusiasm en-thusiasm in bringing more tourists to the Pleasant Grove area, Mayor Roberts remarked. The city council is in receipt of a petition from property owners along Highway 91 west of the city limits, -asking that the property be annexed to Pleasit Grove City. The area extends west to include the Christensen's Motor Lot. An official plot of the proposed annexation annex-ation is being prepared by Dale Despain and will be presented for approval at the next city council session. Mayor Roberts reported that the Geneva Garbage yard is now activated activ-ated and that the old dumping area east of the city is permanently closed. Citizens will please take note. Bids for the furnishing of g'as-oline g'as-oline and lubricating oils fcr city vehicles have been asked for by the city council. Bids will be opened open-ed at the regular council meeting on the evening of April 15. |
