Show VIKINGS BEAT DONS IN PRACTICE TILT Pleasant ' Grove's B-Champion football aspirants received little more than a mild workout on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 10, when they traveled to Spanish Fork for a game with the Dons. Unfortunately for the Alger Boys the Spaniards offered what was perhaps the weakest competition that the local club has met this year. What the Vikings needed most at this stage of the game was good solid competition, and they failed to get it at Spanish Fork. The game was a virtual walkaway anyway any-way you look at it. In fact, the 34-0 score tells only on-ly part of the story of the P.G. strength and the Spanish Fork weakness. At least four additional P.G. touchdowns were called back and nullified by the officials. Infractions In-fractions of the rules were the reasons given by the whistle-too whistle-too ters. A resume of the scoring plays by the victors reads somewhat as , follows: On the first play of the game, Lewis sprinted 60 yards for the six-pointer. Not a Spaniard layed a hand on him. Hales missed the kick for the extra point. Still in the first quarter Hales got loose for a 15-yard run to score standing up. His kick after this one was g'ood. Lewis added two more touchdowns touch-downs in the second frame. The first came at the end of a 20-yard gallop; and the second on an "up the middle" play for 25 yards. Hales' educated toe was good for both one-pointers. Nobody scored in the third canto; can-to; but the play was sparked by another Lewis run for 80 yards. The score was not allowed, due to a clipping penalty called against the Vikings. Allen added to the rout of the Dons in the final quarter when he ankled 50 yards through a broken field for the final touchdown. Hales obliged again by booting the extra point. Final score, P.G. 34; Spanish Span-ish Fork 0. Due to the opening of deer season sea-son on October 20, the game with BY High has been moved up to today, Thursday. The teams will play at the P.G. Ball Park at 2:30 p.m. Football interest in Region Seven Sev-en is already steaming up for the Bingham at Pleasant Grove game scheduled for Friday, Oct. 26. As it looks from here the Region Seven Sev-en championship will be decided when these two teams tangle. The game should be a diller. Talk about town currently is' to the effect that the afternoon of Oct. 26 should be declared a city holiday. Smart businessmen will close up anyway, since Main Street will be deserted when the Vikings Vik-ings and Miners clash head on at 2:30 p.m. |
