Show ELROY WEST Elroy R. West to Retire After 34 Years of Service After 43 years of service in the educational and military field, Elroy R. West will retire at the conclusion of the current school year. He is a member of the Lincoln High School Faculty at the time of retirement. Mr. West graduated from the Pleasant Grove High School, where he was prominent in athletics, ath-letics, in 1912. He received a Normal Nor-mal Diploma from the University of Utah; attended Summer Schools in 1920, 21, 22, and 23, University of Utah 1924-25; and received his Bachelors Degree from B.Y.U. in 1936. His service as a teacher included includ-ed two years in the Lindon and Lehi Elementaary Schools; 17 years at the Pleasant Grove and 11 years at the Lincoln High School, Orem. - Mr. West was called into service ser-vice in April 1918 and served with the American Expeditionary Forces For-ces in France, in the 91st Division. He saw combat service at St. Mihiel, Meuse-Arognne, Lys-Sche-ldt and Defense Sector. He was commissioned in the Utah National Nation-al Guard in 1936; and remained on active duty until October, 1946. Tranferred to the Air Corps he was assigned as Regimental S-4, then S-2; and was finally given the Director of Administration Administrat-ion and Service when the three-directorate three-directorate plan of organization was announced in 1943. He filled a mission for the L. D. S. Church in the Northern States during 1915-17; and was Southern Indiana Conference President Pres-ident for 18 months. Mr. West married the former Lois Hayes in 1920. The couple have five children: Mary Jo Gordon, Gor-don, Lon Beach, California; Kathleen Kath-leen Dun-ant, American Fork; Elroy H. West, Pleasant Grove; Harriet Barton,, Murray and Barbara Lynn, Oklahoma. Mr. West said Wednesday morning,, morn-ing,, "I have -met hundreds of interesting in-teresting students and adults, whose friendship I treasure; and whose progress will always be a thrill to observe." |
