New Telephone Dial Equipment Building Being Constructed Here i A new telephone dial equipment building will be constructed at 367 South 1st East, according to Ralph K. Ryan, Manager of the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. The new building will be one story of masonry construction with a brick facing to the front. It will be 59 feet wide by 62 feet deep. To accommodate the future growth in the vicinity the new structure is so designed that a second sec-ond story may be added. Relocating the switching center and construction of the new building build-ing is necessary to economically ser-vice the n-apid expanding Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove area and meet the demands de-mands for improved telephone service. ser-vice. The present dial equipment was installed in 1939 :and at that time there were less than 200 telephone customers being served in the Pleasant Grove area. This number has steadily increased until today there is no more room for the much needed additional dial equipment equip-ment in the present building. The new modern dial equipment will be designed to accomodate prefix pre-fix telephone numbers necessary for long distance dialing. The new numbers in Pleasant Grove will have a prefix of SUnset 5 followed by' four numerals. All telephone numbers will be changed to coincide coin-cide with the new system. Service improvements in Provo and American Fork will be made in conjunction with the new office at Pleasant Grove. |
