Show Gospel Doctrine . . . THOUGHTS ON RELIGION "Thou ahalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything .that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, be-neath, or that is in the water under un-der the earth . . . Thou ahalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Thciu Shalt not covet thy neighbors wife, nor his manservant man-servant nor his maidsei"vanit, nor his ox, nor his horse, nor anything that is thy neighbors" Rather, "If thou borrowest of thy neighbor, thou shalt restore that which thou borrowed; 'and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with -all thy soul and with all thy heart, and thou ahalt love thy -neighbor as thyself." thy-self." Have you ever seen a pnreon dejected de-jected or discouraged; his willpower will-power gone; miserable, sad and despondent, because someone bore false witness against him? Have you ever experienced sm-row, uneasiness, un-easiness, sleepless nights because you bore false witness against another? an-other? Whenever we bear false witness, we injure four pei-sons: ourselves, the peraon of whom we Bpeak, the person to whom we speak, and the Lord, because "inasmuch "in-asmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these ... ye have done It unto me," said the Savior. Usually, when a person speaks falsely of another, it is because they are not fully aware of the situation, have not all the facts, are talking' just to be heard, or are jumping to conclusions. The late Dr. James E. Talmage, of the Council .of the Twelve Apostles Apos-tles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, desiring to re-check his book, 'Jesus the Christ,' against any errors, had the printer stop after four copies had been run, so that he might proofread proof-read the book. Suddenly Dr. Talmage Tal-mage burst impatiently from his study: "That printer!" he exclaimed, exclaim-ed, "I feared he could not be trusted. trust-ed. Look what he's done: 'John the Baptist lived on milk and wild money.' " "Father," said one of his sons, "Let's get to the bottom of this before we jump to any conclusions." conclu-sions." So they checked back, thru galley, through page-proof, and through the manuscript typed by his secretary. In each case they found the phrase, "wild money" was there, sure enough. Naturally, we all desire the world and its people to be better, but Still we wouldn't like to be living alone: so improve yourself today, and them improve your friends tomorrow. tomor-row. We have a good example of people jumping to conclusions and trying to put everyone else right, in the present world crisis. People generally are down on what they ain't up on! Surely it's all right for us to desire others to be and to do right, but it should not be beneath our dlgTiity to have an occasional s"lf-nna lysis, to make sure we are also within ourselves. Remember there are always two sides to a question. Let us listen to both sides before we make up our mind. Let us make sure we are rig-Jit before be-fore we go ahead, but also be certain we are wrong- before we quit. Men are not condemned by the actions of others. We condemn ourselves. our-selves. Must we wait until our .iudgment day to leam this all important im-portant lesson. The sooner we truly realize that God does exist, that His son. Jesus Christ is the Savior Sav-ior of the world, and that only by complying with His will, can we expect to dwell once more with God. the Eternal Father, can we enjoy peace, hippiness and the fullness cf life. Let us never belittle our brother broth-er or sister, or cast him out, or talk behind his back, for you certainly cer-tainly do not want him to do it against you. Instead, let us g-et in and help him push his load up over the hill, and he shall do the same for you. Remember life is just as hard with him as it is with you. We're all united under one bond and one purpose, life, liberty and the saving principles of the Gospel Gos-pel of Jesus Christ. This is a true rule to follow, in both our spiritual and temporal natures. All the brutal fighting, hating, agitation or arbitration the world can produce, will net save the world or its people. There is but one plausible answer, the Gospel of Jesus Christ faith a tiiist, an impelling desire within each in- j dividual to do the will of the Eternal Eter-nal Father love of God and love of fellowmen. |
