Show Utah Farmers Union Plans for Farm Program Conference Utah Farmers Union officials have announced plans for a "Farm Program Development Conference" to be held in Salt Lake City, Nov. 16. Douglas T. Simpson, Kamas, state president of the Farmers Union, Un-ion, said Gov. George D. Clyde, former Secretary of Agriculture Charles F. Brannan, National Farmers Far-mers Union Legislative Director John A. Baker and Sen. Arthur V. Watkins (R-Utah), will deliver principal addresses at the one-day meet. "In our opinion, the conference will undoubtedly be the most important im-portant farm meeting held in Utah this year," Mr. Simpson said. "We are calling these meetings in all of the states for the purpose pur-pose of developing a new national farm program which, when completed, com-pleted, will be presented to the 1958 session of Congress," he said. He said he believed "if any farm program is passed by Congress, it will, in a major part, be the program pro-gram we are attempting to develop." devel-op." Mr. Simpson emphasized that the conference is open to all farmers in the state, regardless of which farm organization they are affiliated affil-iated with. Utah's conference will be divided divid-ed into seven separate workshops. The Utah Farmers Union chief said farmers may 'attend the session ses-sion of their ohtaice from the fol- lowing agricultural commodity groups: cattle, wool, poultry, grain hay and seeds, dairy, canning crops and fruit, and sugar beets. Mr. Simpson said the conference, which will be held in the New-house New-house Hotel, is expected to draw several hundred farmers. He said it would provide an "excellent opportunity op-portunity for the mto meet, put their ideas together, and come up with recommendations for an adequate ade-quate agricultural policy." Mr. Brannan, the nation's farm chief under the Truman administration, adminis-tration, Gov. Clyde, and Mr. Baker, Bak-er, will speak to the conference during morning sessions. Sen.
