Show ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWS At kust 200 parents participated partic-ipated in the Central School Orientation Ori-entation Night held the evening of Thursday, Sept. 21. Two one-half one-half hour sessions were held during dur-ing which the teachers outlined goals, aims, procedures and sug-g-isted methods of student help in the home. -ESN Home Room Mothers began the program of testing the eyes of Central School boys and girls last Tuesday. The proceedure also al-so included recording the height and weight of each child. The mothers were previously instructed by Mrs. Lucille Page, school nurse. The testing was directed di-rected by PTA health chairman, Mrs. H. M. Thomas. ESN The "Dog Dilemma" still exists ex-ists at Central School. Teachers are hard put to know what to do with the canine pets who follow fol-low their young masters to school. A call to the local police department de-partment does little good, since there is no city dog pound and dogs released by the policemen return to school soon 'after. Does anyone have a solution for the problem ? ESN Students of the Elementary -Schools are on vacation today and tomorrow. Things are expected to hum again next Monday after the Educators Ed-ucators receive their annual "shot in the arm." ESN The first Savings Stamp Day for Grovecrest will be next Thursday, Oct. 8. Students are asked to bring their Stamp books back to sohool. Mrs. Sadie Beck of the Amerioan Legion Auxiliary will be present, again this year to assist with the Stamp program. ESN An outstanding Science workshop work-shop was held last Saturday at Windsor School. Ford Paulson, one of the Grovecrest Fifth grade teachers, acted as co-chairman of the workshop. Approximately Approxi-mately 80 teachers of the Alpine District attended. Representing Grovecrest besides Mr. Paulson were Rose Radmall, Leah Hartshorn, Hart-shorn, LaRene Briggs, LuJean Aiken and Gordon Walker. ESN The Fifth grade students at Grovecrest are busy these days I working on handicrafts. Gordon I Walker's boys and girls are mak ing puppets and later will write and produce their own puppet .shows. Ford Paulson's students are busy varnishing and preserving preserv-ing all sorts of odd shaped colorful color-ful gourds. These articles will be used for gifts later .in the year. |
