Show Educators Attend Convention In Salt Lake City This Weekend Educators from all of Utah's public and private schools are in Salt Lake City today for the opening- of the annual three-day UEA convention. Sectional sessions ses-sions began early this morning and will continue throughout the week. The keynote address will be delivered de-livered at the first General Session Ses-sion scheduled for the LDS Tab-. Tab-. emacle at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Honorable Brooks Hayes, former United States Congressman from Arkansas will speak on the convention con-vention theme, "Our Abiding American Am-erican Ideals." He will discuss th; vast and significant changes in the environment en-vironment of the educational leadership and the challenge to modem educators growing out of the sweeping changes in our political, pol-itical, economic and social systems. sys-tems. Mr. Hayes is rated as one of the country's most colorful, humble hum-ble and human statesm:n, whose keen analysis of today's problems is backed by long experience in public affairs. From 1951 until 1958 he was a mernbir of the U.S. Committee on Foreign Affairs. Af-fairs. He has long worked for the advancement of educational and economic opportunities for Negroes Neg-roes in the South and throughout through-out the 48 states. Mr. Hayes brought President Eisenhower and Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus together at Newport. R.I. in an attempt to solve the Little Rock integration crisis. He is the author of the bestseller best-seller book "A Southron Moderate Moder-ate Speaks," and is currently a board member of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Other general session speakers include State Superintendent E. Allen Batewian; Dr. Alice M;el, Dr. J. Lloyd Tramp and Dr. 'William 'Will-iam G. Carr. The final general session is set for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday when the newly eleoted UEA officers will be introduced. |
