Show Bennett Asks for Dispersal Status For Utah County Sen. Wallace F. Bennett has asked the government to declare Utah County a disperses! area, it was disclosed this week. The request was made in a letter to Secretary of Commerce Sinclair Weeks, in which Sen. Bennett listed all counties of the state which have not yet been certified, and asked that designations be made as soon as possible. The designation would make the county eligible for new defense plants under the dispersal program. pro-gram. Senator Bennett, who wrote the dispersal legislation passed by the last session of Congress, explained that until now counties have had to apply separately for dispersal designations, but that the program now can be carried out on a statewide state-wide basis in those states like Utah .which are out of "target" areas. In his letter, Senator Bennett said, "At present, only 3 out of Utah's 29 counties have taken the necessary action. I am sure that the remaining counties can qualify, qual-ify, and urge you to begin a survey sur-vey of these counties at once." Noting that there has been increasing in-creasing interest shown by various industries for plant expansion in Utah, Senator Bennett wrote, "I am anxious that these industries be assured that Utah is a certified area for the purposes of the tax amortization program as soon as possible. |
