Show Ike Bandwagon Visits PI. Grove On Wednesday Headed by a flashy pilot car, "Ike's Bandwagon" rolled into upper up-per Main Street at 10:35 Wednesday Wednes-day morning. Some 600 high school students and faculty members and a representative group of business men and other Pleasant Grove citizens cit-izens were on hand for the political poli-tical haymaking. Emblazoned on the side of the huge semi-trailer bandwagon were Republican slogans proclaiming the accomplishments of President Eisenhower Eis-enhower and the incumbent national nation-al administration. Some of these read, "Passed Soil Bank Plan," "Stopped Korean Fighting," "Halted "Halt-ed Inflation," "Balanced the Budget," Bud-get," and "Cracked Down on Communism." Com-munism." Following in flashy convertibles were national and state candidates including U. S. Senator Wallace F. Bennett, U.S.. Representative William Will-iam A. Dawson, Republican nominee nom-inee for Governor George D. Clyde, Staate Representative Orville D. Gunther and other state and Utah County Republican nominees. All of these candidates spoke briefly. Perhaps the most colorful aspect of the entire political fanfare was the appearance of a dozen or so "Ike Girls," dressed in white sport costumes with the word "Ike" displayed dis-played in numerous places. They passed out "Ike and Dick" buttons and campaign literature. The cavalcade rolled south for Lindon, Orem, and Provo at 10:55. |
