Show Easter Seal Sale Helps Crippled Children, Adults Figures that tell a story were released Thursday by the Utah Society for Crippled Children and Adults in conection with the Easter Eas-ter Seal campaign conducted once a year by this society. Figures that are both alarming and consoling, consol-ing, alarming because so little is known of them and consoling in knowing that there is an organization organiza-tion in Utah that is doing something some-thing about it. 4600 children in Utah have orthopedic handicaps. 22,400 children child-ren in Utah have a speech or healing defect and 17,000 adults in Utah have an orthopedic handicap. It is estimated that five children in a thousand are born victims of cerebral palsy. Add to this the number who become handicapped in later life and you have some really alarming figures. Because of the length of time required in the rehabilitation of the cerebral palsied, it is the costliest cost-liest of all crippling diseases to rehabilitate and were it not for the Utah society for Crippled Children none but the wealthiest could afford af-ford the necessary treatments. That is where your Easter Seal dollars go.And remember this, that more than 90 percent of this money mon-ey remains in Utah and less than 4 per cent is used in administat-ion. administat-ion. When you give to Easter Seals you are giving to direct services to the cerebral palsied and handicapped handi-capped of Utah. The Society does not have any other means of carrying carry-ing on their work. They receive no funds from any city, state or governmental agencies. They conduct con-duct no Telethons. They have no in-plant solicitations. They depend on you. |
