Show Local Businessman Interviews Ernest Dean De;i r Friends : Krnest Dean, your local candidate can-didate for House of Representatives, Represent-atives, has a deep understanding and .appreciation of Vocational Education, especially in preparing prepar-ing our sons and daughters for practical jobs in business and industry. in-dustry. Therefore, I feel it important impor-tant enough to bring to you an interview with Mr. Dean regarding regard-ing Vocational Education arid our youth. Question: Ernest, what responsibilities re-sponsibilities have you accepted regarding vocational education? Answer: I have been appointed Industrial Coordinator and Public Relations Director for the Central Utah Vocational School. Question: Do we have many local students in our vocational school ? Answer: Approximately 400 students from Northern Utah Cotmty are attending' the Vocational Voca-tional School in Provo. Question: Does industry accept vocational school graduates? Answer: Very definitely. To prove my contention, Governor Clyde appointed a committee from 22 of Utah's most progressive progres-sive business firms, including our own Utah Cotmty Steel plants. This committee declared their needs as follows: Out of eveiy 11 workers hired, they need 1 engineer, en-gineer, 3 technicians, 7 craftsmen crafts-men and no unskilled people. The Central Utah Vocational School is geared tb train the 10 workers of each 11; it takes -the university univer-sity training for the one engineer. The Central Utah Vocational School in a special program, has trained 80 students this year for one company, the Sperry Co. of Salt Lake City. Several of these youngsters were from Northern Utah County. Question: Were you a member of Governor Clyde's committee? Answer: Yes, I was given an assignment of recommending methods of recruiting students and instructors to train the technicians tech-nicians and craftsmen needed by industry. Question: Are there problems which present legislators are failing fail-ing to recognise? Answer: Yes sir: Our Central Utah Vocational School cannot train all of our local students who want trade and technical training beoause of a lack of funds. Some classes turn away 3 student for everyone they enroll. The school needs a realistic appropriation. ap-propriation. Question: Can the citizenry of Utah County get a larger appropriation ap-propriation for Vocational Education Edu-cation without increasing our taxes? Answer: I would be opposed to an increase in taxation to support this educational (program. Almost every segment of our population, including business, seems to be having problems which should not especially warrant increased taxation. tax-ation. Therefore, I would be in favor of meeting this need through appropriation of existing tax revenues. You will recall that . I have been a member of the legislature and of the appropriations appropria-tions committee and know this can be done. Some states like California receive more Federal Funds to support Vocational Education Edu-cation than does Utah. We need alert representatives to assure Utah its rightful share of all available Federal Funds for Vocational Vo-cational Education. Statement: Ernest's knowledge of and interest in Vocational Education Ed-ucation is only one of many reasons reas-ons why he should be elected our State Representative from District Dis-trict No. 1. Look for additional reasons next week why Ernest Dean must be elected. VOTE NOV. 4th VOTE DEMOCRATIC (Paid pol adv. by George Smith) |
