Show Utah Lake Water Doubles According to a report issued by T. H. Humpherys, state enginee, Utah Lake has continued its rise during the la.nt month until it now holds 193,000 acre feet of water, about double the content last year at this time of 97,000 acre feet. This greatly enhances the prospects pros-pects for good crops. Last year the farmers were on short rations of water, although there were comparatively compar-atively few crop failures due to insufficient in-sufficient irrigation. On June 26, 1934, the lake held 110,000 acre feet available for irrigation. Mr. Humpherys said that so far this season there has been a draft on the lake of 55,000 acre feet, which Is comparatively high. The hot weather, of course, has been the cause of the heavy use. In the last two weeks heavy rains were responsible for a flow of 17,-000 17,-000 acre feet into the lake, while melting Knows in the high mountains moun-tains kept up the streams which pour into the lake. A total of 14,-000 14,-000 acre feet lias been added to the lake in two weeks as a result of diversion di-version from the Weber to the Provo river through the Kamas canal. |
