Show Fire Destroys Nicholes Property Fire losses amounting to $2,000.00 were caused Saturday at the home of Sidney Nicholes Sr., when his car backfired. Forty ton of first crop hay, the bam, a Willys Knight sedan and three wagons were completely destroyed by the blaze. Twelve ton of baled hay in a small building near by was saved by the quick action tof the firemen and others who gathered to assist. A few of the bales were but slightly injured by fire. The three horses belonging to Mr. Nicholes were saved, sav-ed, one receiving only minor burns. The harness equipment was dragged a distance from the barn but bumed when the fence caught fire. Mr. Nicholes was backing the car into the bam between the stacked hay about 5 p. m. Saturday. The car backfired igniting the hay, the excessive heat almost immediately causing the gas tank to explode scattering the burning gass over the stacks. One of the wagons burned belonged belong-ed to Rulon Nicholes and was valued at $200, and one was a sheep camp. All three were 'on wheels using truck tires. At the request of Mr. Nicholes. the firemen made no effort to put out the burning hay but turned their attention to the other buildings build-ings which were kept wet by the play of water from two hose. The firemen done splendid work staying on the scene unttil nine o'clock when two men were left in charge to guard the surrounding property. These two men worked all night turning the burning hay and wetting wet-ting the other buildings to avoid 'other loses. Insurance which expired but a short time ago had not been renewed. renew-ed.
