Show School Grounds to be Beautified as Project This morning the preliminary, steps will be taken in a project whereby the grounds immediately surrounding the Harrington School building and the Alpine district administration ad-ministration building just west will be landscaped and beautified. The F. E. R. A. project which makes this possible calls for the expenditure of $4,287.50, of which amount the school district provides under the terms $1,088.00 for material and insurance. The landscape department of the Brigham Young University, directed by Dr. Moms, has drafted the plans. Extending from twenty feet north of the Harrington building to the south boundary of the grounds the grounds will be beautified. The remainder of the school block will be utilized for play purposes under the present school program, whereby where-by the school children of the grammar gram-mar grades are given outside periods of play in smaller groups instead of the former method of a recess for all at the same time, there will be no necessity for play in the streets adjoining ad-joining the school grounds. The landscape plans include lawn, the planting of trees and shrubs. the construction of a semi-circular cement walk and the installation of a sprinkling system. The city has agreed to furnish the water free for the upkeep of the grounds. F. E. R. A. labor will be employed. A part of this project will include in-clude also the completion of the beautification program commenced at the American Fork High school grounds last summer. Under another F. E. R. A. project approved for the district, in the amount of $5,228.50, the interiors of all school buildings in the district will be painted. This work will also commence this morning in American Fork the labor to be done by men on F. E. R. A, rolls. The painting will be rotated, one week in American Ameri-can Fork, then Lehi, then Pleasant Grove, then Orem, the double shift method to be employed that the labor la-bor may include as many men as possible. James Hallsey of this city will be the supervisor. The district will furnish $4,016.10 to cover the cost of materials, supervisor and insurance. in-surance. Another project approved, upon which work is to start at once, is the completion of a class room at the Page school. This project calls for $954.00, of which the school board is to provide $468.43 to cover equipment, equip-ment, materials and insurance. The present "white collar" project which has been underway in the district since December 1st and which extends into the first week in March is working out very satisfactorily, satisfac-torily, reports Superintendest David Gourley. Twenty-three men and women with professional training and ability are employed throughout the district as follows: 2 coordinators, coordina-tors, 3 typists, 4 assistant librarians, 4 assistant recreational directors, 4 recorders, 2 visual education assistants, assist-ants, 2 visiting teachers, 1 research worker and 1 recreation supervisor. When the project term expires, a renewal will be applied for stated Superintendent Gourley. An application has also been made, he said, for a Crime Prevention project, pro-ject, under which 12 people would be employed in this county, this district dis-trict to receive a number in proportion propor-tion to its population.
